Stavropol , Russia

The Stavropol committee is working on a project to invite a Stavropol official to Iowa to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Premier Khrushchev's visit to the Garst Farm.  The celebration will happen in August, 2009.

Terengganu , Malaysia

ISS submitted a proposal to the US State Department, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, to conduct exchanges that increase participation by girls in sports in Malaysia.  Collaborating partner is the Olympic Council of Malaysia.  Sports associations in Iowa will send representatives to Malaysia to work with local coaches and schools to enhance participation. A delegation of coaches will come to Iowa to plan and conduct programs that can be a model for application in Malaysia. A two-year project is planned and a decision from the State Department is expected in the summer of 2009. If favorable, operations will begin in September.

Veneto, Italy
The Veneto committee is working on a project with Fairfield, Iowa to bring 2 Madonnari artists to Iowa in June, 2009.  One artist would stay in Fairfield and participate in many activities there, including their All Things Italian Festival on June 5.  The second artist would stay in the Des Moines area.  This artist, co-sponsored by the Italian American Cultural Center, would work in the Des Moines area and participate in the Des Moines Arts Festival.

The Veneto committee is working on a project that bring back the popular Luca Donini Jazz group to Iowa in July, 2009.

Yamanashi, Japan

The Yamanashi Committee is working on projects that will occur in 2010 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Yamanashi/Iowa Sister State Relationship.

The Yamanashi Committee is working on a Baseball exchange that would start in August, 2009.  Teresa and Neal Parmenter will lead the group.
