Sister State Agreement with Iowa
Signed by the Governor of Iowa, Terry Brandstad, and The Chief Minister of Terengganu, Tan Sri Haji Wan Mokhtar Ahmad, in 1987 in Kuala Terengganu, the capital city of Terengganu.

Geography
Positioned on the northeast coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Terengganu extends from 4 to 6 degrees north of the equator with a 225 km coastline along the South China Sea. Its climate is tropical. It includes clear blue seas, 140 miles of white sand beaches, lush jungles, waterfalls, fishing villages and modern cities.

Parliamentary form, headed by a Chief Minister, with a Sultan as the titular ruler.

Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Dungun, Kemaman and Besut.

Population
Approximately 1 million: 93% Malay, 5% Chinese, 1% Indian, 1% other.

Transportation
First class roads connect the entire state, including remote areas. Three airports, with a total of 13 flights per day from Kuala Lumpur and 2 flights per week from Singapore, serve the state's major industrial areas. Terengganu is also has two seaports, Kemaman and Kereth (built specially for petroleum products).

Scenic Areas
Exotic islands featuring clear water, white sand beaches and jungle include Pulau Redang, Pulau Perhentian and Pulau Kapas. Adventure spots include Lake Kenyir, surrounded by lush tropical jungle, Pasir Raja for jungle trekking, and spectacular waterfalls at Sekayu and Sungai Ceralak. Marang, Chendering and Kigal are among the many picturesque fishing villages. Rantau Abang is one of only six sites in the world where giant leatherback turtles come to lay their eggs.

Recreation and Tourism
Tourism is one of the most important industries, and Terengganu is in the process of developing Redong Islands into a beatiful new resort. Trekking, fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, boating, golf, unsurpassed scenic beauty, handicrafts, the best food, most gracious people in the world and more can be found in Terengganu.
