Kosovo Delegation to Central Iowa

Iowa Sister States, in partnership with the Kosovo Consulate located in Des Moines, are proud to announce the upcoming visit of Kosovo’s own First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Behgjet Pacolli.

While in Iowa, the Deputy Prime Minister will meet with several associations and organizations such as Iowa Association of Business and Industry, Greater Des Moines Partnership and Leadership Iowa.

He will greet members of the Iowa legislature’s International Relations Committee, meet with the Governor, Secretary of State and Secretary of Agriculture, and attend the Condition of the Guard along with an office call to Major General Timothy E. Orr, The Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard.

He will spend time with the education community in Iowa by hosting a reception for schools that have Kosovo scholarships set up, along with a visit to DMACC’s Southridge facility and participation in an alumni event at Drake University.

The Deputy Prime Minister will finish his busy schedule in Iowa by meeting with several mayors from across the State of Iowa that have, or will, enter into sister city relationship with cities in Kosovo. Those cities include: Johnston; Ft. Dodge; Norwalk, and Des Moines.

Over the years, there have been many connections between Iowa and Kosovo via the Iowa National Guard and city level cultural exchanges. The relationship began to be formalized in 2011 when the Iowa National Guard and the Kosovo Security Force became partners via the National Guard Bureau’s State Partnership Program.

The partnership was further solidified and strengthened in 2013 when Iowa’s former Governor, Terry Branstad, and former Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga, signed the sister state agreement between Iowa and the Republic of Kosovo.
